About UTG

Founded in 1998, UTG's goal is to provide a welcoming environment for UT students of all majors and backgrounds to participate in the creation of live theatre. UTG produces two main stage productions a semester, performed on and around campus, and a Children's Show performed at a local home for children.

Since its inception, UTG has been an independent and student-run organization, which means that the club operates without sponsorship from any university-affiliated faculty or department. All roles required for the production of a theatrical piece are filled by the members of UTG, including, but not limited to: directors, actors, stage managers, construction/set crew, lighting designers, sound designers, prop masters, makeup artists, and marketing specialists.

Besides its obvious theatre aspects, UTG also functions as a social organization. UTG hopes to create a family-like atmosphere for its members by hosting weekly meetings, social events, book clubs, and cast parties.

UTG truly has room for students of all backgrounds, skill-levels, and talents. If you would like to share your talents with UTG  in any way, please consider joining our email list and/or Discord.

Children's Show Production

Auditions: Jan 24th & 25th, 2024

UTG produces a children's show every semester. The show is usually adapted from a popular children's television show or story. The show is performed at a local home for children. Recently, UTG has also hosted a "showcase" so that the children's show can be shown off to other members of UTG and the UT community.

General Meetings/ Workshops

Every Wednesday at 7 PM in PAR 206

UTG members meet every week to discuss official org business, which includes subjects such as current events and voting for fundraisers, service events, and party themes. Occasionally, meetings are replaced with specialty "workshops," which strive to teach members new skills like directing, writing, improv, and SFX makeup.

End-Of-Semester Banquet

At the end of every semester, we party! That is, we host a banquet to celebrate all that UTG members accomplished throughout the semester. There is food, fun, joke awards, real awards, roasts, and more! This is also where members vote for shows and directors for the next semester. It is always a wonderful time.
